A subdomain is part of a web address which is under the main domain, such as name.example.com. From a technical perspective, even in www.example.com the "www" part is a subdomain given that the fully qualified domain name is only "example.com". Every single subdomain can have its own website and records and can also be hosted with a different provider if you want to use a feature which isn't provided by your current service provider. An illustration for using a subdomain is if you have a company site along with an online store under a subdomain where clients can purchase your products. You can also have a forum in which they can talk about the products and by using subdomains as opposed to subfolders you are going to avoid any risk of all websites going down when you perform maintenance, or update one of the site scripts. Keeping your sites separated is also less risky in case there is a script security breach.

Subdomains in Cloud Web Hosting

Every single cloud web hosting package we supply will allow you to create many subdomains with no more than a couple of mouse clicks within your website hosting Control Panel. They're going to be listed in the area in which you create them and grouped under the main domain for more convenience, so you can very easily monitor them all. Additionally, you can access many functions for any of the subdomains using right-click context menus - for instance, you can view or change their DNS records, access the website files, and a lot more. While creating a new subdomain, you are also going to have lots of options that you can choose from - specify the default access folder, set custom error pages, activate FrontPage Extensions or choose if the subdomain is going to use a shared or a dedicated IP address. The amount of subdomains you are going to have is completely up to you because we haven't limited this feature for any one of our plans.

All subdomains that you have in the account will be grouped under their root domain in alphabetical order and you're going to be able to see and manage all of them without difficulty. By using quick access buttons and right-click menus you'll also be able to jump to the site files inside the File Manager area or see logs, visitor statistics and other information about any of your subdomains.
