When you add a domain as hosted in some account, you usually set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that particular company. On their end, three records are created automatically the moment the domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain address where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they indicate the server that handles the e-mails for that specific domain address. The site and the e-mail hosting are typically perceived as one thing, when they're in reality two different services. Having independent records for them will enable you to have them with different providers if you wish. For example, some new company could have exceptional uptime for your website, but you might not want to switch your e-mails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the Internet domain to the first and MX records to have the e-mails with the second, you could get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you want to open a website or send an email - in either case, the company whose name servers are used for the domain address is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you are going to see the needed site or your e-mail is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Web Hosting

If you have a cloud web hosting account with our company and you wish to move either your website or your emails to an alternative service provider, it is going to take you literally simply 2 mouse clicks to do this. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you are going to be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard 2, it's not going to take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record will have. The propagation of every record that you change or create won't take more than a few hours and if necessary, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which reveals how long a record will stay active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan from our company, you are going to be able to view and change the A and MX records for every one of the domain addresses or subdomains which you host inside the account. The Hepsia CP, which you will get to take care of the account, provides an advanced, although easy-to-use tool in which all hosts are going to be listed in alphabetical order and you'll be able to modify their records with no more than a few clicks. If you have to create a new record, it will be equally easy - select the domain/subdomain, type in the IP address or mail server record and you're going to be all set. You'll also be able to set different priority for the MX records which you create in case you choose to use a third-party e-mail provider and they ask you to create additional records apart from the two default ones. If you experience any issues, we've got a detailed Help section with videos in which you can see first-hand how to setup or modify any record.
