If you would like to point a domain name that you have to another domain name or subdomain, one of the ways to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain address being forwarded loses all of its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it is forwarded to. In this way, if you use a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be directed to the Internet site which you have created, but it will also be displayed in the browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because this type of a record set up for the main domain makes it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Web Hosting

Creating a CNAME record using our Linux cloud web hosting is quite easy. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted in your account in just a few basic steps. There is also a video tutorial within the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature will give you a variety of opportunities - if you set up a company website on our end, for example, the employees can use their e-mails with the company domain name, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to create a website through a different provider which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain name hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, if you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you can set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and point it to the main domain address, so all your customers will be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

You will be able to set up, edit and delete CNAME records really easy with any of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are controlled through the custom Hepsia hosting CP, and in one of its sections you will see all records for any domain address or subdomain that you've added in your account. To create a new record, you have to pick the hostname which will be forwarded (domain/subdomain), type where it is going to be forwarded to, select the record type, that will be CNAME in this case, and you're going to be all set. Even when you haven't used a web hosting service before, our CP is quite intuitive to use, so you will not have any problems. We also have a short video and a detailed help article concerning how to create a CNAME record, both of which are located in the exact same section of Hepsia. With this function, you can easily use a domain hosted on our innovative cloud hosting platform for a site created elsewhere, create a custom webmail login address with any of your domains, plus much more.
